Additional Summer Research Opportunities for Undergraduates
In addition to the numerous research opportunities within WWU's Chemistry Department, the National Science Foundation (NSF), through its Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program, funds a variety of sites that provide students with opportunities
to perform research during the summer. An REU Site will typically consist of a group of ten or so undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution. Each student is assigned a specific research project, where he/she works closely with faculty and other researchers. Students are granted stipends and in many cases assistance with housing and travel.
This is as an excellent opportunity to explore different parts of the
country and to gain valuable research experience. Undergraduate students supported with NSF funds must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions.
Application deadlines for these programs typically range from late January to early March, so be sure to check the
deadlines for programs that interest you.
