Graduate Program

Thank you for your interest in our M.S. graduate program at Western Washington University.  Our program emphasizes the professional development of graduate students through close mentoring by a faculty advisor.  We feel it is an ideal program for those looking for advanced training which will lead to industrial employment, community college instruction, or for students not quite ready for a doctoral program.  We are proud of the high quality of our M.S. program as several recent M.S. students have been honored with the Western Association of Graduate Schools "Distinguished Master's Thesis Award".  This multidisciplinary competition draws applications from universities in fourteen states and three Canadian provinces.  Read more about specific graduate programs.

The Chemistry Department is located in a modern four-story building with state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment.  Major equipment includes a GC-MS spectrometer, scanning electron microscope, FT-IR spectrometers, gas chromatographs, HPLC instrumentation, and 500 MHz and 300 MHz NMR spectrometers.

Graduate fellowships are available at Western Washington University through the National Science Foundation GK-12 Fellows Program.  The GK-12 Fellows Program places science graduate students in middle school classrooms to improve the learning of science.  Successful applicants will be funded for one year ($30,000 stipend plus tuition waiver) and will work with middle school teachers in Bellingham School District, Lummi Tribal School, Mount Vernon School District or Nooksack Valley School District.  Check the webpage for application deadline.
