Welcome to Chemistry 454 for Fall Quarter 2005. Please watch this space for announcements regarding this course. Other items of interest will also be posted from time to time, as appropriate. (notice posted on September 16, 2005)
The first class meeting of the quarter will be on Thursday, September 22 at 12:00 PM. We will meet in Chemistry Building 485. The agenda for this first day will be an introduction to the course, a review of safety policies and check-in instructions, and an introduction to the application of spectroscopy to solve the structures of organic substances. (notice posted on September 16, 2005)
Special Notice: In order to be enrolled in this course, each student will be required to take and pass a laboratory safety quiz. This quiz is an on-line quiz, consisting of 25 multiple choice questions. It is your responsibility to take and pass the safety quiz on your own time, during its scheduled hours. The absolute deadline for completion of this requirement is Thursday, September 29 at 10:00 AM. If you cannot successfully pass the quiz, you will fail or be dropped from this course! Click here to be directed to the safety quiz information. (notice posted on September 16, 2005))
Experiment 5 (GC-MS) is now posted on this web page (notice posted on October 25, 2005)
Experiment 6 (NMR) is now posted on this web page. The due date has been postponed until November 17. (notice posted on November 8, 2005)
The due date for Experiment 7 (NMR) will also be postponed -- the new due date is December 1. Experiment 7 is now available. (notice posted on November22, 2005)
I have an extra problem set posted for you to work on. This one is a 20-point assignment. This assignment is not required -- it is an extra credit assignment! CLICK HERE to see the PDF file. Warning: lots of pages! (notice posted on November 15, 2005)
