Department Receives Department Development Grant
In July of 2000, the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust of Vancouver, Washington and the Research Corporation awarded a $745, 967 grant to Western Washington University’s chemistry department. The award recognizes Western’s emphasis on a quality liberal arts education and commitment to undergraduate research. The grant, along with approximately $ 1.6 million in pledged funds from Western’s administration, will be used to recruit new faculty and purchase state-of-the-art equipment for instruction and research. The funds will also allow the hiring of two laboratory coordinators and the creation of new laboratory research space. All of these additions are intended to nurture and develop a culture of undergraduate research in chemistry and biochemistry at Western.
