Welcome Message from the General Chair
Welcome
to the Seventeenth Biennial Conference on Chemical Education, to be held from
July 28 to August 1, 2002 at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.
We offer you an exciting opportunity to gather together and share expertise
and experience among colleagues who are committed to excellence in chemical
education. We welcome equally those persons who are new to the field of chemical
education. We look forward to interacting with you and hope that you will be
imbued with enthusiasm and ideas that you can take back to your classrooms.
We are excited about being
able to host the BCCE. We believe that our campus is a center of excellence
in undergraduate education, and we are eager to have you visit and learn something
about our programs. Our Department of Chemistry is nationally acclaimed for
the quality of its undergraduate education and for its efforts to integrate
undergraduate research into its curriculum. In addition, we believe that the
Pacific Northwest is one of the most beautiful areas of our country. We are
looking forward to your visit and to the chance to show some of the special
sights that we value so highly.
Our program will be stimulating
and valuable, regardless of whether you teach in a four-year college or university,
a two-year college, a high school, or a middle school. The principal themes
of our program are intended to highlight the unique scientific and cultural
environment of the Pacific Northwest. We trust that you will find something
in the program that will be of interest to you.
I invite you to take some
time, explore our local environment, visit our campus, and even plan your vacation
to take advantage of your journey to Washington. We have a number of interesting
excursions planned during the conference, and we are featuring the opportunity
to combine your visit to the BCCE with further vacation opportunities.
If you have questions about
the conference, please feel to contact me by e-mail or by telephone.
I look forward to seeing
you in the summer of 2002!
